Seniors’ Wellbeing

Building connection, promoting wellness, and celebrating the wisdom of our elders.

Program Overview

With the aging population in African-descent communities continuing to grow, the need for dedicated initiatives that support seniors has become a priority for the Nuru Training Association (NTA).

One of the biggest challenges many immigrant seniors face is social isolation—caused by language barriers, cultural differences, or lack of family support. The Seniors’ Wellbeing Program is designed to:

  • Enhance overall health and wellness.

  • Foster social connection and friendship.

  • Provide opportunities for skill development and intergenerational knowledge sharing.

  • Create an age-friendly environment that allows seniors to thrive.

Program Goals

The intent of the program is to:

  • Promote physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

  • Build supportive social networks among seniors.

  • Increase access to cultural and recreational activities.

  • Provide conversational English and computer literacy classes to reduce language and digital barriers.

  • Encourage intergenerational learning by creating spaces where seniors can share wisdom, culture, and life experiences with youth.

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment for immigrant seniors to learn, connect, and thrive.
